Hello and welcome! I am Annelise Nicole Sophiea, the owner of Annelise Nicole Photography and I am so thrilled to have you visit my site! I am a wife, mother of three beautiful children and an award winning fine art portrait artist living in Traverse City, Michigan. I specialize in children from newborns to high school seniors and maternity.

“Keep your love of nature, for that is the true way to understand art more and more.”
-Vincent Van Gogh

I started photography three years ago when my husband purchased me my first camera. With a photography class under my belt and hours of self-study I began taking pictures. My intent was to take better pictures of my own children. However, when my friends saw those pictures they began asking me to take pictures of their children. I had no idea it would turn into what it is today. I am so humbled by what it has become. I have traveled around the country providing my clients with creative and whimsical portraits that will last a lifetime. It has been an amazing journey. I believe to appreciate the art you need to understand the story.

As a child with two siblings six and seven years older than me, I spent a lot of time alone. I had a variety of pets to keep me company and they became my good friends. Throughout my childhood I had a horse, goat, hamster, guinea pig, rabbits, dogs, cat, fish and cockatiel. They kept me busy and helped me during my loneliest times. It has only been recently that I have discovered I have suffered from anxiety and depression the majority of my life without truly knowing it.

My animals helped me control my anxiety and helped me to feel relaxed. So when I started adding animals into my art it took me a while to really understand why I was doing it. With each unique portrait I create I am reminded of my own childhood and my wonderful animal companions. By developing my art in this way it has changed my entire life and has grown me into the person I am today. This journey has shown me things about myself that I was unaware of. My photography also portrays the unique connection we have with nature. Whether we know it or not our connection to nature is amazing. We depend on nature more than nature depends on us. It is my hope that in some small way my art can focus on the need for us to better understand the connection we have with nature and the importance of protecting our animal friends.

It is truly an honor for me to create an artistic portrait that will embrace the beauty and joy of the moment and create a lasting memory for you and your family.
